Luck Wasn’t On Our Side, Says Claudio Ranieri over West Brom defeat

 

Claudio Ranieri believes his Leicester side were unlucky to be beaten 2-1 at home by West Brom on Sunday. Danny Drinkwater's error allowed Matt Phillips in to score the winner 18 minutes from time after Islam Slimani had earlier struck for the Foxes to cancel out James Morrison's header.

The Foxes saw their 20-game unbeaten run at the King Power Stadium in the Premier League come to an end. Leicester struggled to break down a resilient West Brom in the first half on Sunday, failing to get a shot on target in the first 45 minutes.

Ranieri's side improved after the break as Jamie Vardy replaced Shinji Okazaki up top, but they still eventually fell to defeat. He said “Maybe we paid too much attention to the Champions League match. It was not such a good match today and we were also a little unlucky. But that's football, we recharge the batteries in the international break and restart. I don't know what was wrong. I had to speak with my players at half-time and we spoke about something to do, but it wasn't easy to try and win the match.  We wanted to spread them out because they are tall, strong and it's difficult to go between the lines. We made some good chances and scored a goal but it was not so good [in the end.”
