“Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far On Foot” Could Add Jonah Hill And Rooney Mara To The Cast

Gus Van Sant’s “Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far On Foot” is shaping up pretty nicely. After recruiting Joaquin Phoenix for the lead role, Variety is now telling us that Jonah Hill and Rooney Mara are looking to ink deals to star in the movie as well.

The long gestating biopic of quadriplegic cartoonist John Callahan is based on the autobiography of the same name, which tells the story of how he was “paralyzed following a car accident at age 21 and turned to drawing as a form of therapy,” tackling themes of race and disability even at the expense of his readership. Throughout his career, Callahan’s button-pressing work was published in The New Yorker, Penthouse and Playboy among others, before he later passed away in 2010.

After teetering on the brink of development for the better part of 30 years, Anonymous Content and Iconoclast Films appear ready to finally set the wheels in motion for their John Callahan pic. No word yet on when we can expect production to get underway, but the addition of Hill and Mara is certainly an encouraging sign. Both actors have been on hot streaks as of late, offering up solid turns in films like Una and Lion for the latter and War Dogs and True Story for the former.
