Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen sustained ankle ligament
damage during Saturday's 4-0 victory over West
Bromwich Albion. The Belgium international discovered the full extent of
the injury picked up on Tuesday after undergoing a scan, but no time frame has
been given over the length of his absence.
Vertonghen fell to the ground in pain after appearing to roll his ankle
when lunging for the ball with just over an hour played at White Hart Lane. He
was immediately assisted by Tottenham's medical staff, but was forced to head
straight down the tunnel for treatment.
Vertonghen was forced off during the second-half of Saturday's win over
West Bromwich Albion Vertonghen has been wearing a protective boot since
sustaining the injury against the Baggies, with manager Mauricio Pochettino
describing the injury as very bad.
Pochettino could shed more
light on the injury during his pre-match media conference on Thursday ahead of
Saturday's match away at Manchester City.
