Jorge Sampaoli has
officially left his position as Sevilla manager to become the new manager of
Argentina. Sevilla reached an agreement with the Argentine Football Association
last week but said they would not release Sampaoli until guarantees over
compensation were signed.
The relevant paperwork has now
been received, and a statement from the Spanish club confirmed the departure of
their ex-Chile boss after just one season.
It read: “Jorge Sampaoli has left Sevilla FC definitively today after the
documentation by which Sevilla is guaranteed the collection of the fixed amount
in the termination clause of the Argentine coach was initiated. Sevilla FC
wishes luck and success to Jorge Sampaoli in his new professional career and
appreciates the services provided in the 16/17 season, in which the team met
the objectives of the campaign: earning fourth place in the league - with the
second best total of its history - and surpassing the group phase of the
Champions League.”
Sampaoli, and Argentine,
replaces Edgardo Bauza with the
two-time World Cup winners struggling to qualify for the 2018 tournament.
