Deontay Wilder was arrested
and charged with marijuana possession in his hometown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Tuscaloosa
police said in a statement that they arrested Wilder on Wednesday after they
found marijuana in his Cadillac Escalade. They say they stopped Wilder for a
window tint violation.
The department says officers
got permission to search the car after smelling marijuana and discovered a
small amount inside the vehicle. Wilder was
charged by police and released on a $1,000 (£784) bond. The
31-year-old's attorney Paul Patterson did not immediately comment but later
told the Tuscaloosa
News that the
marijuana did not belong to Wilder and that someone had used his vehicle when
he was out of town.
Wilder made the fifth successful defence of his WBC title
by halting compatriot Gerald
Washington in Alabama in February.
