Wonder Woman has not only surpassed $600 million Box Office worldwide, it also has another box office record in its sights: to become the highest-grossing live-action movie directed by a female filmmaker.
At the moment, that title belongs to Phyllida Lloyd’s Mamma Mia! (2008), but given WW‘s total is now within touching distance of the film’s $609.8 million tally, it’s really a question of when, rather than if, Patty Jenkins’ critically-adorned movie will achieve said feat. And what a feat it is.
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad earned $872 million and $745 million, respectively, and when you factor in strong word of mouth – Wonder Woman‘s BO takings dipped by only 43 percent during its second weekend, and a rather remarkable 29 percent during the third – there’s every chance that the Patty Jenkins-directed prequel could go on to become one of, if not the most financially successful film in the DC Extended Universe to date.
