Ways to Promote Your Film Music Online

The Nigerian Film industry is thriving, and the music is starting to have great importance in the movies. Historically, it hasn’t always been possible to purchase and listen separately to the music from Nollywood films, but film companies are becoming savvy to the fact that music is a great ‘supporting actor’ and can really enhance a film. If you are writing music for films and theatre, promoting your music online can really help bring you new fans and followers.

Promoting videos online
Tango With Me was a favorite with audiences due to the fantastic chemistry between Genny and Joseph. It’s no wonder that it was nominated for 5 awards at the Africa Movie Academy awards.  The standout music “Suru” has been recorded by Ebisan. Promoting the music online has been really helped by the accompanying video, which is available to watch on Vimeo and YouTube. If you are looking to promote your music online, sharing them on YouTube is a great way of bringing your songs to a wider audience. Make sure that you interact regularly with the YouTube community, as this can help you gain subscribers. The more you perform and get on stage, the more you’ll have to share on your YouTube channel too.

Get your music rated online

Half of a Yellow Sun has five stars on sountrackmania.net, and this is due to the diversity of music in the movie. There are wonderfully rhythmic songs like Naughty Little Flea by Miriam Makeba, and also some lovely romantic music like Un Poquito De Tu Amore by Tony Kofi Quintet. There’s some great use of orchestral classics too like Arrival of the Queen of Sheba. When you are promoting your music, letting your followers rate and share your songs on similar websites, it is a great way of communicating with them. If they comment on your music on social media, make sure you reply, as this will help you to gain a loyal following.

Tell your followers where to find your music

If you are using social media, let your followers know where they can find your music. For instance Knocking on Heaven’s Door, starring Majid Michel Adesua Etomi Blossom and Chukwujekwu Ini Edo is being shown on Netflix in Europe. Let your audience know if your music is being shown on television or any streaming services.

Nollywood soundtracks are becoming more widely available online, and there’s some great music to listen to. You can promote your own movie music online easily and really gain a wider audience.
