5 Worst Signings In Premier League History

1. Andy Carroll Liverpool (£35m)
His stint at Liverpool was one of injuries, frustration and off-the-pitch rumours. Carroll became the 8th most expensive footballer ever when he signed for Liverpool. Those who had cost more at the time were: Crespo, Figo, Zidane, Kaka, Ibrahimovic, Ronaldo and Torres.

He scored a total number of  11 goals for Liverpool in 58 games. The £35m man scored only 6 premier league goals in forty-four appearances, 4goals in six FA cup appearances and 1League Cup goal in six matches. But before he arrived at Liverpool, he scored 33goals for Newcastle in 91 appearances. Had a conversion ratio of 0.36 but in Liverpool he had a conversion ratio of 0.19goals which is very low for a striker with such hug price. A waste of money I would call the signing, he was later sold to West Ham after a season long loan there. He was sold for £15m. A waste!

2. Juan Sebastian Veron Man Utd (£28.1m)
The Argentine gets a bit of a hard time as people seem to remember the midfielders spell in England as worse than it actually was, but for the fee paid for Veron the player was a failure. After the 200001 season, he moved from Lazio to Manchester United on 12 July for a fee of £28.1 million on a five-year deal, the most expensive transfer in English football at that time, he played for United 82 times and scored on 11occassions, with 0.13goals ratio per game. Chelsea later bought him from Manchester United for £15 million in 2003, but despite scoring on his debut against Liverpool, he went on to play 14times and didn't score again. He fell by the wayside and went on loan to Inter and Estudiantes, before leaving on a free transfer in 2007.

3. Roberto Soldado Tottenham (£26m)
Tottenham broke their transfer window record for buying a player after they bought Soldado for £26m, with hopes of coming to improve their goal scoring rates in front of goal, From better than a goal every other game at Valencia and not far shy of that with Getafe, which is probably a better relative record Soldado has netted just seven times in 52 Premier league games, with 4penalties and 3 from open play, he also scored 2goals from five games in the league cup, while he scored seven goals (one of them a penalty) in the Europa League and two in the Capital One Cup. Under the manager, Mauricio Pochettino,
Soldado found his starting opportunities in the league dried up and he has now resolved to find another club. He was sold back to Spain, Villarreal for £10m after two years in England, scoring 16goals in 76appreance. He had a conversion ratio of 0.21goals per game.

4. Fernando Torres Chelsea (£50m)
Another ludicrous amount that the Spaniard was never going to live up to and although the striker has stuck it out for three years at Stamford Bridge, has never found any consistent form. He scored 20 league goals in one hundred and ten appearances in the Premier league for Chelsea, but before his arrival, his time in Liverpool produced 65goals from 102 matches. In the FA cup, he scored 4times in 13appearance, in the League cup; he scored 3goals in 6 appearances but has a good run in the UEFA competitions scoring a 19goals in 43 appearances. His total goals scored for Chelsea after playing 172 matches could only boast of 46goals with 0.27goals per game, definitely low when compared to his performance in Liverpool with 142 matches, scoring 81 goals with 0.57 goals per game. Surely he was a waste in Chelsea.

5. Andriy Shevchenko Chelsea (£30m)
The front man scored 127 goals from 226 appearances at Milan in his prime. A record of 60 goals in 117 Dynamo appearances - including a Champions League hat-trick against Barcelona in 1997 - earned Shevchenko a host of Ukrainian league title medals and a then record $25m move to AC Milan in 2002. Shevy moved to Chelsea in 2006 - a transfer that still ranks as the biggest in the club's history from AC Milan, Shevchenko came to serve as a metaphor for overpaying with just 22 goals in 76 games for Chelsea. He scored 9 goals in forty eight premier league matches, 3 goals in 7 FA cup matches, 5 goals in 6 Carling Cup, and 5 goals in 16 champions league matches, he had 0.29 goal ratio per game. The Ukranian was finally loaned back to Milan in 2008.

From the look of things, Chelsea spends a lot and they win lesser trophies. This got me now wondering, Falcao played in United now in Chelsea, hope his story won't end like Veron? Well am just wondering.
