The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria reached the
quarter final stage of the Fifa U17
World Cup after annihilating Australia
6-0 in the early hours of Thursday.
Victor Osimhen becomes the tournament highest goal scorer with
seven goals from four matches after scoring a hattrick at the Estadio
Sausalito. The Eaglets put up a ruthless performance as they welcome back Funsho Bagboye and Udochukwu Anumudu who both missed the last match due to suspension.
The Emmanuel Amuneke’s led team began the demolishing
of the Joey’s boy as early as the 22nd minutes when Osimhen got his
first goal of the tournament and his first for the night. At the end of the
first half the Eaglets were two goals up with the second goal coming from Kelechi Nwakali just three minutes after Osimhen goal. Nigeria started the second half the same way they
ended the first but the goals didn't come till the 73rd minutes when
Osimhen found the net again making it 3-0. Six minutes after that Osimhen got
his hattrick for the night as he pushed aside the Aussie defender and shot into
the roof of the net past the hapless goalkeeper.
S.Chuwueze and E.Essien added more misfortune to the Tony Vidmar led team as they completed
the rout as they have now secured a quarter final clash with Brazil after becoming the first team to
score six goals in the tournament.
