George Lucas Issues Apology Over 'White Slavers' Comment

George Lucas has issued an apology for comparing Disney to white slavers as his apology comes after comments he made about handing the reins of the Star Wars franchise over to Disney in an interview with CBS News' Charlie Rose.

I misspoke and used a very inappropriate analogy and for that I apologize. I have been working with Disney for 40 years and chose them as the custodians of Star Wars because of my great respect for the company and Bob Iger's leadership” Lucas said. In his apology, the Star Wars creator says he thinks Disney is doing an incredible job of taking care of and expanding the franchise. He later expresses his contentment with the history-making box-office performance of Star Wars: The Force Awakens saying.

Lucas also clarifies that the interview was conducted for the Kennedy Center Honors and before The Force Awakens actually premiered.
