The year 2015 has ended and as
we begin 2016 today we at Absolute Hearts
takes a look at our Top Eleven Sports Personalities for the year 2015. These
were sport personalities that distinguished themselves highly in the out gone year,
and won for their teams, themselves and the nation as a whole medals or
accolades.
Starting from the rave of the
moment, here's the list.
1. Odion Ighalo
Odion ighalo scored 30 goals
in 2015, more than any other player in the English top flight. The former Udinese man is having a good time in
his first season in the EPL, which has seen him score 14goals in 18appearances
for Watford who are having a great start to the EPL, they currently seat on the
8th position with 29points. He had scored 16goals when he was in Championship
in the year 2015.
2. Emmanuel Amunike
The 45year old former
Nigerian International, Current coach of the U-17 lads. He led the glorious
U-17 Golden Eaglets to defend the trophy they won in the previous tournament at
the UAE in 2013. Amunike led the team throughout the seven games played in the
tournament, wining 6games and lost a match, scoring a total of 23goals and conceding
5goals throughout the tournament, 8goals scored in the group stage conceding
only 3goals, 6goals in the round of 16 against Australia, 3goals in the quarter
finals against Brazil and in the semi final played against Mexico scored 4goals
but conceded 2goals, which got them to the final in which they faced African champions
of the U-17 Mali and defeated them by two goals. He made history by making
Nigeria become only the second side to successfully defend the U-17 world cup
and the only side to have won it on 5 occasions.
3. Victor Osimhen
The young talented Nigeria
footballer was the highest goal scorer of the tournament and also a record goal
scorer of the tournament with 10goals. He
never fails to deliver when it comes to goal scoring as he scored in virtually
every game Nigeria played in the tournament, this got him the golden boot and
also the second best player of the tournament behind team captain Kelechi Nwakali who won the golden
ball. He's also among the victorious U-23 lads that won the U-23 African
Nations Cup in Senegal and is currently a subject of transfer speculations
among top clubs in Europe, with Arsenal
and Wolfburg fighting for the young
chap signature.
4. Chamberlain Oguchi
He is a Nigerian American
Professional Basketball player who plays as a shooting guard in the Polish
Basketball League. Oguchi led Nigeria at
the 2015 FIBA Africa Championship in Tunisia to their first ever AfroBasket
title, defeating perennial rivals Angola by 74-65. Oguchi led the team in scoring, averaging 16.6
points per game. He was named Most Valuable Player and Best 3-Point Shooter.
Oguchi was also named with Al-Farouq Aminu, into the All Star Five of the 2015
Afrobasket after the games. The win
qualified Nigeria for the Summer Olympics to be held in Brazil, "Rio de
Janeiro 2016".
5. Kadiri
Ikhana
The 63year old Enyimba coach, who is currently the
most successful Nigerian coach in the Nigerian League as he has been coaching
from 1986 and he's not stopping as he has led Enyimba to their 7th league title
in exceptional fashion. He was also in charge of Enyimba when they won their first
continental title in 2003 and will lead them to the CAF Champions League in 2016.
He's the father in law to Nigerian
player, Yakubu Aiyegbeni.
6. Al-farouq Aminu
The former Los Angeles
Clippers forward, is an American-Nigerian basketball player who currently plays
for Portland Trail Blazers in the NBA, he contributed immensely to D'tigers in
winning the Afrobasket 2015 and he also earned himself a place in the all star
five team of the tournament.
7.Aruna Quadri
The table tennis star has
been representing Nigeria very well, in October; he helped his new club
Sporting Lisbon to a first title in four years by winning the Portuguese Super
Cup. Also, Quadri to overcome his Egyptian arch-rival, Assar Omar, in the men's
singles final at the Indoor Sports Hall of Revolution Centre, Congo
Brazzaville. Quadri has also qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio,
Brazil.
8. Fanedo Adi
He is a Nigerian football
player who plays for Major League side Portland Timbers, he helped his club to
win the MLS Cup in 2015 and also the Western Conference Cup, he helped his team
with his goals and has become the club's forth ever designated player.
9. Moses Simon
His full name Moses Daddy-Ajala Simon, The Nigerian
football player who plays for KAA Gent
of belgium helped his club to win the Belgian Super Cup and Belgium Pro League,
he's also a member of the Nigerian National Team, he helped Nigeria with his
goals also has scored 3goals on 7occasions and the goals have been crucial.
10. Samson Siasia
The odds staked against Coach
Samson Siasia as faced the daunting task of qualifying Nigeria for the 2016
Olympics. He did not hide his frustrations, which include the kidnap of his
aged mother, but he went on to win the Africa Under-23 Tournament in Dakar
Senegal, and also qualified for the 2016 Olympics. However, the Under-23 team
failed to break the jinx of Nigeria not winning the gold medal of the Africa
Games they settled for the bronze after a penalty shootout with the hosts
Congo.
11. Amaju Pinnick
With three trophies,
including a triumph at the world stage, in 2015, President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF),
Amaju Pinnick, is standing shoulder high, as 2015 comes to a close. In March
2015, the Flying Eagles won the 19th CAF U-20 Youth Championship,
beating the host, Senegal, 1-0 in the final. It was the last major trophy won
under the administration of former President
Goodluck Jonathan. The Golden Eaglets opened the gate of success for the
President Muhammadu Buhari's administration in November by capturing the FIFA
U-17 World Cup in Chile. The NFF
recorded another milestone shortly after, as the U-23 Eagles won the CAF U-23 Championship
two weeks ago in Senegal.
