Messi quits international football

Lionel Messi has announced a shocking retirement from international football after another unsuccessful attempt at winning a silverware with the Argentina national football team.

Messi,  while enjoying a trophy laden time with Barcelona,  appears to be jinxed with his national team, the Albiceleste.
There is no other explanation after Argentina lost a third consecutive final in three years in the early hours of Monday – and again it was the slimmest of margins.
But the result of that loss is that Messi has at least for now decided that his time is up with the national team.
In his 112th appearance for his country – he could not lead his team past Chile, as they lost 4-2 on penalties (they had also lost the 2015 Copa edition to Chile on penalties).
“For me the national team is over. I’ve done all I can, it hurts not to be a champion,” Messi said after the loss.
Before now Argentina soccer legend, Diego Maradona, had warned Messi not to return home if he failed to win the Copa América.
