Lauren Palmigiano Will Helm White Girl Problems

 

Lauren Palmigiano is poised to make her directorial debut with White Girl Problems, a new dramedy that has set up shop at Lionsgate. Word has it that the studio has appointed Pitch Perfect duo Elizabeth Banks and Max Handelman to produce the project, one that centers on “a young woman with a huge social media following who melts down one afternoon after spending about a quarter of a million dollars in Barney’s and ends up in shopping rehab, where she decides to write about her life — of excess and meaningless problems.”

White Girl Problems is lifted from the titular, best-selling memoir by Babe Walker and was first scooped up by Lionsgate three years ago. In those intervening years, the studio has recruited Alisha Brophy and Scott Miles to adapt Walker’s work for the big screen.

Palmigiano, meanwhile, was also the sole driving force behind Cried Suicide which made its bow at Tribeca Film Festival. Now, the writer-director is ready to make her first foray behind the lens to indulge in some White Girl Problems and although no stars are currently attached, we’ll be keeping track of this one as it marches toward production.
