Mr. Robot Renewed For Third Season

Currently midway through its sophomore run on the air, Mr. Robot has been renewed for a third season at USA Network. Even if some critics have lamented season 2’s dips in quality, the renewal comes at an opportune time for Sam Esmail’s techno-thriller, which drew praise at the TCAs  after nabbing the coveted Outstanding New Program gong. Beyond that, Mr. Robot has also been nominated for a remarkable six Emmy awards, including Best Drama and Lead Actor for series star Rami Malek.

In tandem with today’s announcement, NBCUniversal Cable entertainment president Chris McCumber said in a statement: “We couldn’t be more proud of Mr. Robot, a series that has pushed boundaries, captured the cultural zeitgeist and been honored as one of the best dramas on television. Midway through its second season, Mr. Robot continues to break new ground and open up new opportunities for the network. We can’t wait to see where [series creator] Sam Esmail and the entire brilliant Robot team take us next.”

Though it continues to earn praise in critical circles, Mr. Robot season 2 is struggling to maintain a steady viewership. Just last week, the series dipped to a new low with only 572,000 watching the latest episode live, or on the same day via Amazon Prime.
