X-Men Won’t Feature In Avengers: Infinity War

With movie and TV crossovers becoming an increasingly popular choice nowadays for amping up audience anticipation, it’s no surprise that filmmakers and actors are constantly being pushed for potential clues about future projects which may fall into that category.

Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are set to face the purple-skinned baddie Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, the gigantic phase three closer that’s apparently going to include every major character from the MCU. But their comic book chums are unlikely to fight alongside them, as Infinity War co-helmer Joe Russo told ComicBook.com that he’s heard nothing about it:

He said “As far as we know, right now there isn’t talk regarding the X-Men. I don’t know if behind-the-scenes there were conversations or if there are conversations happening but we certainly haven’t heard of any. Sony and Marvel had a relationship through Kevin [Feige] and Amy [Pascal] and through us and Amy. That’s really how Spider-Man came about. It requires a certain alchemy and a very special situation for studios to share properties.”

This isn’t the first time this idea has been mentioned. In fact, it was only a couple of months back that the folks at Collider heard talk of Fox hoping to conjure up a deal with Marvel, similar to the one with Sony. It’s far from a confirmation but worth keeping in the back of your mind, especially as X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner responded enthusiastically to the idea in the past, along with Wolverine himself. Hugh Jackman sounded positively pumped at the thought of appearing alongside the Avengers.
