It’ll mark Jackman’s final outing as the enraged Mutant, tapping into the beloved Old Man Logan story arc to close the book on the Aussie’s decorated tenure with those adamantium claws. Such a bittersweet send-off will naturally evoke mixed emotions from fans who have followed Wolverine’s story for more than a decade, but the character is certainly in good hands, as director James Mangold is the best candidate to tackle the finale, after directing Hugh Jackman in the well-received reboot three years ago.
Jackman revealed that an announcement is right around the corner. There’s also mention of that jet-black tone. He said “I just meet with director James Mangold, he’s busy editing. There’s going to be some stuff coming out in the next week or so, that’s all I’ll say. Basically, it’s going to be very different. Very different in tone, and hopefully different to anything we’ve done before.”
Bouncing off his cameo appearance in this year’s X-Men: Apocalypse, it appears that Nathaniel Essex (AKA Mr. Sinister) will indeed hold a role in The Wolverine 3. 20th Century Fox is keeping things under lock and key at the time of writing, but all signs point to Richard E. Grant assuming the role of the nefarious genetic scientist.
The Wolverine 3 is earmarked for launch
on March 3, 2017.
