Following a lengthy spell helming big budget Hollywood blockbusters director Gore Verbinski is circling back to
small-scale filmmaking in 2017, and we couldn’t be more excited. The director,
who made a name for himself in the horror genre with the truly unnerving
American remake of The Ring, is rustling up something wholly unique
and downright bizarre for his next effort. It’s called A Cure for
Wellness, a psychological thriller in which Dane DeHaan succumbs to madness while
visiting a peculiar wellness center
high up in the Swiss Alps. It’s a lavish facility, one that promises to purify
and cleanse its patients through a mixture of old-school and inhumane
experiments, each more nightmarish than the last. Hatched by Verbinski and screenwriter Justin Haythe, judging by today’s all-new trailer, A Cure
for Wellness is brimming with a potent, psychological terror – a
melting pot of bleak, sterile environments and stomach-churning experiments. At
almost three minutes in length, this new sizzle reel does cast light on a lot
of key story elements, so if you’re wanting to experience Verbinski’s new
pic with a relatively blank slate, avert thy eyes.
“There is a sickness inside us, rising
like that bile that leaves a bitter taste at the back of our throats.”
Thankfully, Gore Verbinski has just the tonic, and will administer A
Cure for Wellness across theatres nationwide on February 17, 2017.
