Ore Oduba, has sparked a £500,000 bidding war
between the BBC and ITV. Worried bosses are set for crunch talks with the BBC
Breakfast sports reporter who upset the odds with his victory on Saturday night
in a bid to stop him defecting.
According to
Mirror UK, BBC chiefs are worried that the journalist could move to a
rival media house – ITV – following his big winning at Strictly Come
Dancing. Recall that the 30years old BBC Sports broadcaster and his dancing
partner Joanne Clifton won the
hearts of viewers and the judges, beating singer Louise Redknapp and actor Danny Mac. Now, with him in the spotlight, TV bosses reportedly are
locked in a £500,000 bidding war over the champ.
A similar
scenario occurred in 2013 when Susanna
Reid emerged a runner up at the competition and quickly got employed with
Good Morning Britain. To possibly avoid a repetition of such, Mirror UK
suggests that Oduba, who had previously stood in for Phillip Schofield on ITV’s The Morning, stands a chance
of presenting BBC’s Friday show, The One Show, if he stays. Plus
the media house’s controller Charlotte Moore was spotted chatting with him
after his win over the weekend.
A source said “It’s clear Ore’s a rising star and he’s now a household name because of Strictly,” a source told Mirror UK. “He was given his One Show presenting debut during Strictly in a really tricky episode where he had to interview Sir Cliff Richard, but passed the test with flying colours. There’s a sense of urgency to get him presenting some other programmes and have him based in London now after his sport on (ITV’s) This Morning. ”
Ore Oduba
was born in the UK to a high-powered
Nigerian lawyer and he spent his childhood shuttling between Nigeria and the
UK. At 23, Oduba became the youngest presenter on children’s channel BBC
Newsround, before climbing the ladder to become a sports broadcaster.
