Next week,
Lemony Snicket fans finally get the chance to see if Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events lives up to their lofty expectations.
While our full review is embargoed until Wednesday, we can tell you that you’re
in for a visually arresting series, as highlighted in this newest teaser
trailer.
The 30-second
promo, which promptly features Patrick
Warburton’s Snicket, warns viewers of the distributed plots, villainous frightful deeds and an absurd amount of
childhood endangerment that are laced throughout this latest
streaming-friendly program. Do you really
want to sit through every horrid episode,” Snicket asks? “Be a dear and look
away. Whether you heed that advice or not is up to you, but it does, once
again, showcases the self-deprecating and highly self-aware dialogue and comedy
found throughout the new YA adaptation.
Starring Malina Weissman, Louis Hynes, Presley
Smith, K. Todd Freeman, Joan Cusack, Aasif Mandvi, Catherine O’Hara, Alfre
Woodward, Don Johnson and Neil
Patrick Harris as Count Olaf, A Series of Unfortunate Events is
directed in part by Barry Sonnenfeld,
with Daniel Handler having written
most of the episodes.
Season 1
will be based on the first four books in the 13-part series: The Bad Beginning, The Reptile Room, The Wide Window and The Miserable Mill. Should the show prove to be a
success, which we imagine it will, you can expect season 2 to dive into the
next few novels. For now, though, there’s definitely a lot to look forward to
with the first outing of Netflix’s new series.
