Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice to pass the 500
goal mark and equalled an all-time club record as Real Madrid beat Malmo
2-0 in the Champions League.
The
Portugal international, who had drawn blanks against Granada, Athletic Club and
Malaga in recent weeks, finally hit the milestone in the 29th minute of
Wednesday's Group A clash when he latched onto a fine pass from Isco.
And
he doubled his tally to equal Raul's
all-time record of 323 goals for the club, diverting home Lucas Vazquez's right-wing cross in the final minute of the match. Madrid
were in complete control of the game and Ronaldo
could have scored twice before finally getting his second, with Malmo
goalkeeper Johan Wiland making two
excellent saves to keep him at bay.
The
victory means Madrid have won both of their Group A matches, a record matched
by Paris St-Germain, who were 3-0
winners at Shakhtar Donetsk. Serge Aurier headed PSG's opener in the seventh minute at Lviv Arena, and the Ivory Coast
right-back served up a corner kick for David
Luiz to make it 2-0 in the 23rd minute. PSG sealed victory when Zlatan
Ibrahimovic unleashed a shot that ricocheted off Shakhtar captain Darijo
Srna and flew into the net in the 90th minute. PSG welcomes Real Madrid for
the matchday 3 set of matches n the 21st of October.
Seydou Doumbia scored twice as CSKA Moscow
held off a second-half comeback by PSV
Eindhoven to win 3-2 in their Group
B match. CSKA led 3-0 at half-time
thanks to Ahmed Musa's
seventh-minute opener and goals from Doumbia,
who scored with a looping header in the 21st minute and from the penalty spot
15 minutes later after PSV
goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet brought down Zoran Tosic. Doumbia could have completed a hat-trick in the match but missed
another penalty shortly before the interval. PSV rallied after the break, with Maxime Lestienne scoring from close range on 60 minutes and firing
in a second goal eight minutes later but they could not complete the comeback.
The match ended in a 3-2 win to CSKA
Moscow. In the other game in the group, Manchester United got a win over Wolfsburg 2-1 in an entertaining
clash at Old Trafford. Goals from Juan Mata and Chris Smalling proved the perfect riposte to Daniel Caligiuri's fourth-minute opener as Louis van Gaal's men took the spoils on Wednesday.
United
headed into the fixture desperate to secure all three points, having fallen to
a 2-1 loss at PSV in their opening group game. Mata converted from the penalty spot after Caligiuri's handball. Smalling
then slid home a second just after the interval, with United clinging on thereafter to get up and running in Group B.
In
Group C,FC Astana became the first
club from Kazakhstan to win a
Champions League point with a 2-2 draw against Galatasaray. The Turkish side led until the 77th minute through Bilal Kisa's long-range goal before a
string of defensive blunders decided the game. First, Astana drew level at 1-1 when Galatasaray
goalkeeper Fernando Muslera palmed Junior Kabananga's cross into defender Hakan Balta, who watched with horror
as the ball bounced off him and into his own net. Galatasaray retook the lead nine minutes later when Astana goalkeeper Nenad Eric fumbled a cross from Sinan Gumus and it bounced over the goal line. FC Astana's 89th-minute equalizer came when Galatasaray goalkeeper Fernando
Muslera punched the ball out to Astana's Roger Canas, who headed in. The other game in the group saw Benfica come from behind to surprise Atletico Madrid. Angel Correa put the hosts ahead from inside the area in the 23rd
minute after a neat exchange of passes between Juan Fran and Antoine
Griezmann, but Nicolas Gaitan
equalized with a left-footed shot in the 36th and Goncalo Guedes put the Portuguese champions ahead after a fast
break in the 51st minute to win the game for the visitors.
Juventus put their miserable domestic form
behind them to defeat Sevilla 2-0 in
Group D thanks to goals from former Real Madrid youngster Alvaro Morata and Simone
Zaza, and an excellent debut showing from Sami Khedira. Morata equalled
club great Alessandro Del Piero's
record of scoring five goals in five consecutive Champions League matches -
headed an excellent Andrea Barzagli
cross past the helpless Sevilla goal
keeper Sergio Rico on 41 minutes,
before substitute Zaza doubled Juventus lead with a late breakaway
goal in the 87th minute. Also Sergio
Aguero broke Borussia
Monchengladbach's hearts from the penalty spot as Manchester City secured a 2-1 comeback win in Champions League
Group D on Wednesday. Borussia
Monchengladbach goal came from Lars
Stindl early in the second half, The defensive pair of Nicolas Otamendi and Martin
Demichelis combined to equalise, with Otamendi's
final effort deflecting in off Andreas
Christensen. Sergio Aguero, who
had missed several decent chances in the first half, then won a penalty moments
from time. The Argentine had no problem converting and salvaging an unlikely
victory from a less-than-promising performance. City were indebted to Joe Hart, who brilliantly denied
forward Raffael on a number of
occasions –
most notably from a 19th-minute spot-kick.
The
next set of matches in the champions league are billed for Tuesday 20th October
2015
