Arsenal Beat Bayern As Champions League Returns

 

Losing their first two games in the group stage of the Champions League Arsenal needed a win against a Bayern side that have scored 40 goals and conceded 5 in their last 12 games, to keep any hope of qualifying to the next stage alive and with goals from Giroud and Ozil that hope has been kept alive.

The game was seven minutes old when Alexis Sanchez played in Ozil, whose shot forced a one handed save from Neuer as Theo Walcott scrambled for the rebound but could only force a corner.  In the 30th minute Douglas Costa played in Robert Lewandowski but Petr Cech was equal to the task, and just moments after Arsenal went ahead through a questionable goal by Oliver Giroud. The ball looked to be diverted in by the arms of Giroud but the Turkish assistants decided to see no evil in that.

Arsenal’s second goal was allowed due to the referee clear sight on the ball, Mesut Ozil’s shot looked to have been kept out by Neuer the Bayern keeper but it was ruled to have gone over as replays also showed that it had by some distance.  

With this win Arsenal are still third on the table with 3 points from 3 matches but if they can savage a draw against Bayern in the return leg then they might still have hope of qualifying.

In other games Chelsea were held to a goalless draw against Kyiv as Williams and Hazard hit the wood work while Ivan Rakitic did the scoring for Barcelona as Messi was missing in action. Bayern Leverkusen threw a 2 nil goal advantage against Roma as the match ended 4-4.
