The NPFL had it
week 33 set of matches despite the weekend been the international free week,
the Nigerian League did not partake in such as it teams were in action. Here's
a review of the matches that went down over the weekend.
Enyimba 2-1 Shooting Stars
Enyimba FC
continued their fight to win the seventh league as they secured a win against
visiting Shooting Stars of Ibadan, in Aba, to move five points clear of closest
rivals, Warri Wolves. The goal scorers for Enyimba were Chinedu Udoji, their
captain, who scored through a header on the 75th minutes. Enyimba took the lead
through Musa Najare in the 14th minute before Ajani Ibrahim had stunned the
home fans in the 56th minute. The game leaves Enyimba with 61 points from 33 games
and it also leaves shooting stars 46 points from same 33 games.
Kano Pillars 2-1 Sunshine
Stars
The defending
champions Kano Pillars went back to winning ways after they drew their last
match against Giwa United, they defeated Sunshine stars of Akure by two goals
to one, the goals for Kano Pillars were an own goal by Omololu Waheed as he
turns the ball into his own post, the first half ended with the score line
remaining like that, the second half began with sunshine getting a goal back in
the 58th minutes, the game was ending into a draw, but the referee savage the
day as he awarded a deserving penalty kick to Pillars as he sent off Chaona of
Sunshine for dissent, the resulting free kick was scored by Tony Edjomariegwe
from the spot. The game ended with Pillars holding tight their lead. Kano
Pillars are now in the 9th position against their former 9th position, the
results also makes Shooting Stars drop from the tenth position to the 11th
position.
Ifeanyi Ubah 3-0 El-Kanemi

Ifeanyi Ubah FC
the maximum three points against their visitors El- Kanemi as they failed to
show up for their match. They were also awarded three goals. The free points
now leaves Ifeanyi Ubah on the 9th position and further leaves the Borno based
side in their former position with 43 points from 33 rounds of games on the
13th position.
FC Taraba 1-0 Heartland
FC Taraba landed
Heartland of Owerri a defeat after they defeated Enyimba last week, the goal
for Taraba came in the second half as they first half saw both teams losing
scoring opportunities, Taraba scored the only goal of the game in the 73rd
minutes by Substitute Stephen Alfred who scored with a left footed finish.
Taraba are still in the 19th position as only a miracle will see them excape
relegation. Hearthland on the other hand dropped to the eight position from the
seventh position.
Sharks 2-0 Wikki Tourist
Sharks lost their
match last week against El-Kanemi, but this weekend, they made their intent
known for beating the drop, they won against visiting Wikki Tourist by two
goals with goals coming as early as the 3rd minutes after Aremu Afeez got the
goal from an Odinga's cross after a scramble in the box, same Aremu was fouled
in the box in the 23rd minutes as Pyagbara converted the resulting penalty
kick. The match ended with Wikki Tourist unable to reply the goals. Sharks and
Wikki retained their former position from the previous weekend, sharks on 16th
postion while Wikki are still in the 3rd position.
Lobi Stars 2-1 Kwara United
All the three
goals of this match were scored in the first half, Bashir Abdulrahman of Lobi
Stars got an early goal for Lobi Stars on the 9th minutes while Michael
Ogu also capitalise on a poor defending
by Kwara Utd to score his team's second goal. Halilu Obadaki on the 44th
minutes got an away goal for Kwara United as he scores a free kick just minutes
before the first half ended, the second half started with both teams seeking
another goal but none was forthcoming, the match ended with the score line
remaining same as that of the first half. Lobi Stars are on 14th points while
Kwara United still remains in the relegation zone with 35points.
Akwa United 1-0 Abia Warriors
Yusuf Adio's well
taken free kick ensured a 1-0 win for Akwa United over visiting Abia Warriors
at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium Uyo on Sunday evening. The match
ended with the score line remaining same. Abia Warriors despite the lost still
remains in the top ten. They seat at the number 10 position from their previous
8th position, while Akwa United despite the win remain 4 points above the
relegation zone, seating in the 16th position.
Giwa FC 1-0 Dolphins
Giwa FC scored an
early goal through Lawal Shittu on the 6th minutes the assist came from Amos
Gyang and Dolphins were unable to find a reply as the game ended with the score
line remaining same.
Enugu Rangers 1-1 Warri
Wolves
Gbolahan Salami
continued from where he stopped last week as he helped Warri Wolves secure an
early goal as Osas Okoro got the equaliser in the second half of the match. The
game ended with both teams testing their opponent’s keeper but none was able to
get a win. The game was the only match that ended in a draw. The draw by Warri
wolves leaves them 5point behind the table toppers Enyimba, the draw also
leaves Rangers in the 12th position with 45points from 33games.
Bayelsa United 1-2 Nasarawa
United
The game was a
highly entertaining one as it produces three goals in the first half and a
saved spot kick. Bayelsa United were handle a penalty kick after Nasarawa
defender handled the ball in his box, the resulting penalty kick was saved by
the keeper of the Nasarawa United. Anyu Ishaya of Nasarawa united gave the
visitors the lead shortly after the penalty miss by the opposing side, Eric
Frimpong puts Bayelsa Utd back in the game but within seconds Nasarawa restore
their lead through Anyu Ishaya's goal and the first half ended in such manner.
The second half resumed hostilities as the home team seek to get an equaliser
which they couldn't find.
