And though he couldn’t comment on the future beyond 2016, Colin Farrell spoke broadly about Yates’ prequel movie during an interview with Coming Soon. On board to play Percival Graves, here’s what the actor had to share regarding the Potter universe and working alongside Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne, who leads Warner’s offshoot as the brilliantly eccentric Newt Scamander. He said “Yeah, he was great, Eddie and Ezra. David Yates is an extraordinary man and filmmaker who kinda feels like a protector of the kingdom. He’s so well-versed in the mythology of that world and has a deep affinity for the characters and the lore of it. He was great to be around”.
Also starring Gemma Chan, Carmen Ejogo, Jon Voight, Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller and Ron Perlman, further in the piece Farrell conceded that he’s unsure of Warner’s plans for the future of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, stating, “I don’t know what’s happening. As far as I knew it’s standalone. I don’t know what their intentions are”.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has been pegged for release on November 18, 2016, with two as-yet-untitled sequels tentatively slated for 2018 and 2020.
