Early Reactions For The Nice Guys Heap Praise On Shane Black’s Cool Thriller
Shane Black’sThe Nice
Guys has hit the ground running with a wave of positive reviews
gushing over the director’s cool ’70s thriller. It’s been an awful long time
coming for Black, too, who first drafted the premise for his buddy cop comedy all
the way back in 2001. In those intervening years, the project flirted with both
CBS and HBO, where Sean Penn would have headlined. Alas, it wasn’t until Ryan Gosling
and Russell Crowe took point as
The Nice Guys that Shane Black’s noir began to take shape. Now, it’s two
weeks out from release, with Warner Bros. handling North America distribution
to the director’s spiritual successor to Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. And by
all accounts, it’s been worth the wait.
Also starring Angourie Rice, Matt Bomer,
Margaret Qualley, Keith David and Kim
Basinger, The Nice Guys shoots for theaters on May
20
