Jason Day Took Advice From Tiger Woods

Jason Day has admitted to receiving tips and advice from Tiger Woods as he bids to land his first Players Championship title at TPC Sawgrass this week. Day has been in regular contact with Woods during his lengthy absence from the game following back surgery at the end of last season, and the 14-time major champion has yet to confirm a date for his comeback.

But Woods has been happy to offer advice to the world No 1 in recent months, and Day revealed he has benefitted both technically and mentally. The Australian has collected six victories in his last 16 starts, including his maiden major title at the PGA Championship last August, and is determined to improve his record at TPC Sawgrass having missed the cut three times in five appearances.

He said “Some of the shots I hit, some of the decisions I make are because of what me and Tiger have talked about in the past. If there's a guy that you want to pick someone's brain, it's him. Tiger did it for so long, did it for many, many years, won so many golf tournaments. He knows what it's like to win in the modern era. If I'm looking for a bit of a pep talk or something like that, I always text him. He always ends with like, 'Go get it done'. You got to earn the wins, they're not given to you. It's a lot about just trying to get better mentally and that mental toughness that he had for so long

Woods has two Players Championship titles in his locker, winning in 2001 and then 12 years later during his five-win season in 2013, and Day is fully aware of the prestige of an event described as golf's fifth major.
