Mads Mikkelsen Teases His Villainous Role In Doctor Strange

It’s been quite a few months since we’ve seen anything from the Sorcerer Supreme’s first solo outing, but now star Mads Mikkelsen has shed some light on what we should expect. After explaining that the Doctor Strange movie won’t be quite as trippy as the colourful tales told by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko back in the 1960s, the Hannibal alum went on to elaborate on why this movie is going to be vastly different to what’s come before from Marvel Studios, but still not so different that it’s like the “acid trip” tales of the past.

He said “We’ve taken that fascination of the time into something we can relate to today. So you still have the energy, you still have the colours, you still have the madness, but you also have something you can identify with. I think that was a necessity – if not, you would just make a crazy film. But you still have it there – you have all the action, all the good ingredients you get in a Marvel film, but it will have a different flavour, that’s for sure

Mikkelsen then went on to talk about his role in Doctor Strange, and while he didn’t offer any specifics on who he’s playing, it doesn’t sound as if his bad guy will be a stereotypical villain. He said “He’s not a villain in that way – he’s a man who believes in something else than the hero. That doesn’t mean that he doesn’t want to make the planet look wonderful or he wants to save the world as well, but he has a different way of doing it. He is the antagonist, of course, but he’s not necessarily wrong”.
