British number one Johanna Konta
picked up where she left off as she eased past Shelby Rogers in the first round of the Rogers Cup in Montreal. The
25years old beat Venus Williams at
the Stanford Classic on Sunday to win her maiden WTA title and had little
difficulty in disposing of another American in Rogers. Now ranked 14th in the world, Konta needed a little over 80 minutes to book
her place in round two with a comfortable 6-4, 6-2 win over the 23-year-old. Konta
will face either Timea Babos of
Hungary or Rogers' compatriot Vania King
in round two as she looks to head to the Rio Olympics in fine form and add to
her first title success over the weekend.
