Lucy Boynton Joins Gypsy

Netflix looks to be continuing to develop high quality, original programming from talented creators and performers as evidenced by the casting of Lucy Boynton in the upcoming psychological thriller series, Gypsy. The star will join lead actress Naomi Watts in what is sure to be the next successful title from the streaming service provider.

Naomi Watts stars as Jean Holloway – a therapist who has an unsettling tendency to develop inappropriate connections with those who play a big part within the lives of her patients. Lucy Boynton has been cast in the role of Allison – a 19 year old college drop-out, who is hiding from her mother the fact that she has left education in order to financially support her addictions. Also featured in the cast are Billy Crudup, Karl Glusman, Melanie Liburd, and Sophie Cookson.

The first season will comprise a minimum of 10 episodes, some of which will be directed by Scott Winant and Sam Taylor-Johnson. The series is created by newcomer Lisa Rubin, and has a writing team that includes Jonathan Caren, Sneha Koorse and Sean Jablonski. As is often the case with Netflix Originals, it is not yet clear when Gypsy will arrive on the platform – but 2017 currently looks likely.
