The Super
Falcons got the defence of their African Women’s Cup of Nations title to a
perfect start after they thrashed Mali 6-0 in their Group B opener in Limbe on
Sunday. Four goals from Arsenal
Ladies striker Asisat Oshoala and a
goal each from Francisca Ordega and Uchechi Sunday secured the emphatic win
for the Falcons.
Ordega put
the Falcons in front on 21 minutes before Oshoala made it 2-0 before the end of
the first half. Sunday scored on 48 minutes for the Falcons to make it 3-0 from
the penalty spot after Osaronoma Igbinovia
was fouled inside the penalty box.
Oshoala then
went on rampage, scoring in the 64th, 69th and 78th minutes to see off the
lacklustre Malians. The Falcons’ next game is against rivals Black Queens of
Ghana on Wednesday.
