Sunderland striker Victor Anichebe has been ruled out for
up to 10 weeks with a knee injury. The 28years sustained the injury in his
side's 2-0 defeat to West Brom at
the Hawthorns on Saturday. He picked up the injury as his shot was blocked
shortly after coming on as a substitute.
Anichebe
signed a one-year deal with Sunderland in September 2016 and has scored three
goals in 11 Premier League appearances. He was making his comeback from a
hamstring injury that had kept him out since New Year's Eve at the weekend but
now faces a further spell on the sidelines.
Anichebe
joins a number of first-team players who are missing for Sunderland due to
injury, while others are away at the Africa Cup of Nations. They have signed defender Joleon Lescott until the end of the season but are bottom of the table, three points from safety.
