Scott Quigg is undergoing surgery
after suffering a broken jaw during his points defeat to Carl Frampton in Manchester on Saturday night. Quigg was injured by
a punch from Frampton in the fourth round, but was able to continue fighting
and went the distance before losing a hard-fought contest in a split decision.
Quigg who spoke after the fight said “He
caught me with an uppercut and has broken my jaw so that put a bit of a spanner
in the works. I had to have round five off then just to see what the damage was
like, if it was going to be painful when I got hit. Luckily it wasn't, it was
just numb. It felt like I had been to the dentist's and had an injection”
Quigg's promoter Eddie Hearn
revealed on Twitter on Sunday that the Bury fighter was having surgery and also
posted pictures of the X-rays. He wrote “Thoughts
with Scott Quigg currently undergoing surgery on broken jaw..you will be back
stronger!”.
Frampton took the WBA super-bantamweight title from Quigg with his
victory to add to his IBF belt after receiving two scores of 116-112 from
the judges, with the third scoring it 115-113 for Quigg, who is now hoping for
a rematch.
