Greetings
Our attention has been drawn to a
report making the rounds from a certain blogger identified as ‘entertainment
profiler’. Much as we would not like to
join issues with this relatively unknown blogger who by our assessment might
just be craving undue attention and mischievously so, we as a responsible
organization thought it right to set the records straight and give the general
public a true picture of the outcome of the just concluded glamorous Miss
Tourism Ogun 2015 Pageant.
Let us say for the records that
Miss Tourism Ogun is uniquely different from other pageants. The organizers were on the lookout for young
women with character and interest in the vision to drive and help revitalize
tourism and make it a more attractive industry that can contribute significantly
to the internally generated revenue of the host state. This for us is key, and is constantly made
known to our contestants, supporters and all that came our way. Suffice it to say we were looking out for
budding tourism ambassadors who can combine brain, beauty and character. Not mere beauty.
Now to the issues raised by
‘entertainment profiler’ about the emergence of our maiden Queen, Her Eminence Queen Ayoola
Akinlawon, at the risk of sounding immodest or claiming perfection, I make it
bold to say that the crowning of the winners (Queen and runners-up) was done
with all sense of fairness, objectivity and the fear of God. This decisions were
greeted with loud ovation from all present at the event and other independent
observers, government officials and even majority of the other contestants,
against the insinuations of the blogger who I believe is either misinformed,
misguided or just being mischievous.
The blogger lied by claiming that
Queen Ayoola did not resume camp until the night before the finale. Camp opened on Monday and the main activity
on that day was a welcome party. The
third runner-up, Miss Chisom Ugah, resumed camp on Tuesday with tenable reasons
and participated in all camp activities till the end, Queen Ayoola Akinlawon
however came to camp on Wednesday after writing exams in her school earlier
that same day and not Thursday night as claimed by the blogger and the
fictitious source. She was made to go
through extra hours of drill to make-up for what she had missed majorly catwalk
and dance lessons. The instructors took
her through the rigors and she was able to catch up and cover for all she
missed. Therefore, she is evidently
qualified to wear the crown she is wearing.
On the allegation that the Queen paid her way through, this is so baseless
and unfounded which should not be taken seriously, we believe it can only be
likened to the ranting of a bad looser who is desperate to give a dog a name in
order to hang it.
In every competition, especially
glamorous ones of this nature, it might be difficult to accept defeat but the
truth is someone must win and wear the crown.
We constantly made it known to other contestants that they are winners
in their own right and for this reason we made them Miss Tourism Ambassadors of
the respective Local Governments they all represent.
In conclusion, we advice that
bloggers and other journalists should endeavor to uphold the tenet of the noble
profession which is objectivity and
balance and stop this abuse and misinformation of the public with hear-says
and rumors.
Signed
‘Biodun Ogundele
Head, Media & Strategy
Miss Tourism Ogun.
