Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has claimed his
side played much better than Arsenal
as the points were shared in a feisty north London derby at White Hart Lane. Alexis Sanchez rescued a point for
10-man Arsenal after Harry Kane's
spectacular striker looked to have sealed a memorable comeback victory for the
hosts.
Aaron Ramsey had given the Gunners the lead before Toby Alderweireld drew the teams level, with the second-half strike coming five minutes after Francis Coquelin was sent off and after watching his team drop two points, the former Southampton boss was left disappointed despite his side's impressive showing on Saturday.
He said “In the first half we conceded a goal when we fully deserved to score, and because we managed the game from the beginning, but sometimes it's difficult. At 2-1 for us, I'm disappointed at the final whistle. But the last action for Ramsey at the end, we need to be pleased and happy because we keep the three-point to Arsenal and I think if you analyze the game we played much better than them. It's true. It's disappointing because we were leading 2-1, 11 against 10 players, but they have a very good player and the goal was our mistake. We feel disappointed because we lost two points but it's always difficult to play against Arsenal in a big derby”
The draw sees Tottenham remain second in the Barclays Premier League, two points behind league leaders Leicester and three ahead of the Gunners. Pochettino, who is now looking towards the club's Europa League last-16 first leg clash with Borussia Dortmund, maintains his delight at their current position.
