According to the Wrap: “It is an original screenplay that is very different from everything I’ve ever done except for that it’s exactly the same. It’s the first time in my life I’m writing without a sort of studio audience rating — without a plan,” he added. “I’m just writing about something I care about, so it’s a little terrifying and it’s taking a little longer. But I think it will be good!”
Further in the interview, talk inevitably turned backed to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where Whedon was quizzed about the possibility of one day directing a female-led superhero movie. Said he: Yeah, of course. Although I tend more towards the Jessica Jones-ey kind of stories than the delightful Supergirl stories that my daughter wants. Whedon also ruled out the possibility of directing Captain Marvel, instead revealing that head honcho Kevin Feige had to fight a mighty fight to ensure Carol Danvers found a place on the studio’s cinematic slate.
