Joss Whedon Teases Details Of New Non-Marvel Screenplay

Joss Whedon may be on an indefinite hiatus from Marvel’s universe of costumed heroes, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the writer-director hasn’t been keeping busy. While Whedon still holds a minor role behind the scenes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Wrap has learned the filmmaker is working on an original screenplay that centers on a girl who goes through some unbelievable shit. While he stopped short of revealing too much at such an early stage he did at the very least outline the creative process.

According to the Wrap: “It is an original screenplay that is very different from everything I’ve ever done except for that it’s exactly the same. It’s the first time in my life I’m writing without a sort of studio audience rating — without a plan,” he added. “I’m just writing about something I care about, so it’s a little terrifying and it’s taking a little longer. But I think it will be good!”

Further in the interview, talk inevitably turned backed to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where Whedon was quizzed about the possibility of one day directing a female-led superhero movie. Said he: Yeah, of course. Although I tend more towards the Jessica Jones-ey kind of stories than the delightful Supergirl stories that my daughter wants. Whedon also ruled out the possibility of directing Captain Marvel, instead revealing that head honcho Kevin Feige had to fight a mighty fight to ensure Carol Danvers found a place on the studio’s cinematic slate.
