The list of the highest grossing actors of all-time has long been
a male-dominated field thanks to the likes of Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Downey
Jr., Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp and more, but the beautiful and badass Scarlett Johansson is here to finally break up the boys’
club. According to Box Office Mojo’s running list,
Scarlett Johansson has entered the Top 10 with a total gross of $3.3 billion
and counting, coming in ahead of Gary Oldman, Robin Williams and Bruce Willis.
Johansson’s
role as Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has no doubt helped propel
her into the top 10. The actress has played the character in five Marvel
blockbusters, beginning with her first appearance as Black Widow in 2010’s
“Iron Man 2” and most recently in this summer’s “Captain America: Civil War.”
Other recent blockbusters include Luc Besson’s “Lucy” and Jon Favreau’s
“The Jungle Book.”
But while
her involvement with Marvel has carried her total grosses into the billions,
part of what makes Johansson one of the most exciting actresses working today
is how she’s never remained content in just turning out blockbuster after
blockbuster. The actress continues to test her strengths in indies like “Don
Jon,” “Her” and “Under The Skin,” the latter of the two being some of the most
challenging characters to pull off in the past decade. Unlike some of the other
members of the Top 10 who seem content with cashing checks by working on
autopilot (here’s looking at you, Depp), Johansson is constantly proving she’s
one of the most daring talents in the business with one risky role after the
next.
The
actress can still be seen in theaters right now in “Captain America: Civil
War.” Her upcoming projects include the animated musical comedy “Sing” and the
controversial “Ghost in the Shell” remake. She’s also circling a role as Zelda
Fitzgerald in a new feature.
