#Rio2016 Olympics: Blessing Okagbare goes up 200m semi-finals after 100m flop

Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare is out of Rio 2016 Olympics 100m final after finishing third in the semi-finals in a time of 11.09 seconds.

Subsequently, Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson (10.71s) followed in the steps of compatriot Usain Bolt to claim gold in the 100m final.
Thompson finished ahead of USA’s Tori Bowie (10.83s) who got silver and fellow Jamaican and pre-race favourite Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (10.86s) who claimed the bronze medal with a third place finish.
Blessing holds the women’s 100 meters Commonwealth Games record for the fastest time at 10.85 seconds in 2014.
However, the 27-year-old sprinter is now in the 200m semi-finals after coming tops in heat 5 of round one in 200m qualification, clocking 22.71s. This keeps her faith to get medal in this year’s Olympics alive.
The Olympics women’s 200m final will hold on Wednesday, August 17 while the women’s 4x100m relay is scheduled for Thursday, August 18.
