Admittedly, it isn’t all doom and gloom for Mr. Depp, as he earned a fair amount of praise for his turn in Black Mass last year and is now part of the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them franchise. Still, he’s just not the box office draw that he used to be and as such, he’s now found himself as America’s most overpaid actor for the second year in a row.
That’s according to Forbes, who are reporting that for every $1 that Depp was paid, he only generated $2.80 at the box office. It’s a rough figure, to be sure, and will no doubt impact the actor as he moves forward, unless he can find some luck and return to being the surefire draw that he once was. Judging by his upcoming slate though, that’ll be easier said than done.
Overall, it’s a fairly expected group of talent who make up Forbes’ list this year and you can check it out for yourself down below:
10) Bradley Cooper – $12.10 for every $1 paid.
9) Julia Roberts – $10.80 for every $1 paid.
8) Leonardo DiCaprio – $9.90 for every $1 paid.
7) Mark Wahlberg – $9.20 for every $1 paid.
6) Adam Sandler – $7.60 for every $1 paid.
5) George Clooney – $6.70 for every $1 paid.
4) Will Ferrell – $6.50 for every $1 paid.
3) Channing Tatum – $6 for every $1 paid.
2) Will Smith – $5 for every $1 paid.
1) Johnny Depp – $2.80 for every $1 paid.
