Stranger Things season 1 introduced viewers to a creepy parallel dimension
that came to be known as the Upside Down. The first few episodes offered
teasing glimpses of the world in which the Demogorgon resided, until later in
the season several characters actually ventured there themselves – but, we
never actually found out what this dark alternate universe was or how it came
to be.
It sounds like that’s going to change in
season 2, though, as the show’s composers have revealed that we’re going to be
spending more time in the Upside Down when Stranger Things returns this Halloween. During an
interview with Ars Technica, Kyle
Dixon and Michael Stein were
asked about their choice of musical accompaniment for the sinister realm, and
responded with the following:
“The Upside Down is weird and experimental,
and we approached it with something like the Alien soundtrack, but this music
focused on the monster. There are new characters, fun, and the Upside Down will
be more of a place — you’ll spend more time [there]. So we’ll make a lot more
weird music this time around”
Stranger Things is scheduled to return this October.
