Fox has confirmed that there is a plan for a new, 10-episode event series for The X-Files starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. Duchovny and Anderson have signed on to reprise their iconic roles as FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, respectively, and we understand that Fox is angling the new season to premiere later this year or, in the more likely scenario, the early stages of 2018.
Series creator Chris Carter is also back in the hot seat, Fox president David Madden had this to say about the future of The X-Files: He said “Iconic characters, rich storytelling, bold creators – these are the hallmarks of great TV shows. And they are some of the reasons why The X-Files has had such a profound impact on millions of fans worldwide. Chris’ creativity, along with the brilliant work of David and Gillian, continue to propel this pop culture phenomenon, and we can’t wait to see what fresh mysteries Mulder and Scully uncover in this next chapter of The X-Files.”
Fox will crank open The X-Files this summer when production is expected to get underway.
