After this weekend
matches Leicester City went to the
top of Premier League table, thanks to a defeat to Manchester City by Liverpool,
and also Leicester ensuring a win from themselves. Jamie Vardy who scored the first goal for Leicester made history as
he equalled Van Nisterooy's record
of 10 goals in goals consecutive matches when he took his goal tally to 13 for
the season.
Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham
also recorded some vital win while Arsenal
was less impressive as they slipped to defeat by West Brom. With that been
said let take a look at our team of the week, those whose performance stood out.
Here are our selections.
Formation 4-3-3
Goalkeeper -
David de Gea (Manchester United)
Since his return
to first-team action he has been superb, and prior to the game he had a run of
six matches without conceding but the goal which he conceded was a penalty kick
which his defender Rojo gave away
after tripping over Nigerian International Odion
Ighalo and his Captain Troy Deeney
stepped up and fired home an equalizer goal, little did he knew that he would
score an own goal.
Defender - Ryan
Shawcross (Stoke City)
Ever since he had
returned from the back surgery which left him out of the beginning of the
season, he has been ever reliable as he did not let his team down when they
faced Southampton over the weekend
as they halted their run of 8games unbeaten. He holds my right back position.
Defender -
Martin Skrtel (Liverpool)
Liverpool is known to have paraded several A-list defenders,
such as Carragher, Hyypia, Phil Neal,
Alan Hasan and the list goes on. Skrtel
is not left out of the Great defenders Liverpool has, soon to be 31 and he's
still on top of his game. His composure and ability to help the team has made
him one of the longest serving at the club, in his 8th year now. His
performance last weekend against Manchester City and his brilliant goal brought
him into my team of the week as he holds the centre back.
Defender: Toby Alderweireld
(Tottenham Hotspur)
The Belgian has
been an astute signing for the Tottenham as he once again proved to be an
important player as he scored and also stopped the opposition West Ham from
Scoring, he gave Victor Moses and Andy Carroll limited space to cause any
threat. He pairs with Skrtel at the heart of the defence.
Defender: Funes
Mori (Everton FC)
The young Argentine
defender definitely deserves a place in my team. I put him at left back,
because of his heroics performance against Aston
Villa. He didn't give J Ayew any
chance to play his game. He also stopped Grealish
on several occasions.
Midfielder - Dele
Alli (Tottenham)
The 19year old,
won himself the man of the match award against West Ham, even though he didn't
score, he had a hand in most of the goals. His form has been so far top notch,
just recently he made his full England international debut, and he got himself
a goal. He deserves a place in my team of the as the centre midfielder.
Midfielder -
Ross Barkley (Everton)
Barkley gets better after each games, he's known to provide several assist for
Lukaku and even scoring himself as
he scored twice to help Everton defeat Aston Villa. England midfielder Barkley
is now playing for Everton in an advanced position where his talents are best
utilised and he is really starting to express himself as a consequence. He
plays as the anchor in the midfield supplying passes to the forwards.
Midfielder -
Philippe Coutinho (Liverpool)
If you had to
single out a player that caused havoc and wreck the City defence, it has to be the
little Brazilian, he is a magician. He taunted and provoked the former
champions and most times made them look like inferior. He is playing as an
attacking midfielder alongside with Barkley.
Forward - Jamie
Vardy (Leicester)
So he's done it.
Jamie Vardy has equalled Ruud van Nistelrooy's record of scoring in 10 consecutive
Premier League games. He deserves the right to be named in every team of the
week, because he's the most in-form striker in the league and he guarantees you
a goal every weekend.
Forward - Harry
Kane (Tottenham)
Something rather
special is happening at White Hart Lane
at the moment. Mauricio Pochettino
has got Harry Kane scoring goals again, and his side is starting to look like a
team capable of winning a Champions League spot. Twelve goals for Kane in 14
London derbies is impressive. After a torrid start to the season, he begins to
show reasons why the coach had faith in him. He's unlucky not to get his second
hattrick this season as he missed a seater during the win over West Ham. He
will play as my number 9.
Forward -
Romelu Lukaku (Everton)
Nine goals in 13
matches, Lukaku is a star for the future, the Chelsea outcast has never stopped
scoring ever since he was bought from Anderlecht.
His double and an assist helped his team defeat Aston Villa. The Belgian now joins an illustrious group of players,
like Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler, who have scored 50
Premier League goals under the age of 23.
Coach of the
Week: Jurgen Klopp
The magician from
Germany has been top notch ever since joining Liverpool and his battering of
Manchester City over the weekend was classic as he gave Manchester City no
chance to express themselves. His tactics has been superb so far and I see him
taking Liverpool to the top 4 and if possible winning the league.
The team of the week
is based on my assessment of each player’s contribution to the success of their
team, well if you think I omitted a player feel free to put them in the comment
box. Watch out for the Spainish Team of the Week.
