Speaking on NBC's
'Today' show, Trump continued to criticize Bill Clinton's controversial
history with women in the face of his wife's announcement that he will campaign
for her next month in New Hampshire. Trump says he has been unjustly accused of
misogyny by Democrats when they themselves are using Bill Clinton as their
standard-bearer, as he named names, starting with Monica Lewinsky and Paula
Jones. Lewinsky was a former White
House intern with whom Clinton admitted an affair, while Jones was a former
Arkansas state employee who sued Clinton for sexual harassment. “If she's going to play that game, and if
he's going to be out there campaigning, then it's certainly and I think
everybody agrees with me on that” Trump said. He
later went on to say he would “do more for women than Hillary would do for women”.
In an
interview with Radio Iowa on Monday, Trump said he is putting Clinton on notice
that she cannot 'play the woman card' as long as her husband campaigns for her.
Trump said “With all of her past and her
past dealings and, frankly, she’s been involved in it with her husband as much
as anybody, for her to be discussing that I think is out of bounds and I’ve let
them know that. I think we have to have fair fights here and fair dialogue and
we have to do what’s right for the country and she shouldn’t be discussing it.
Probably maybe more so than anybody I know she shouldn’t be discussing that”.
Bill Clinton's infidelities are infamous and his relationship with Lewinsky even led to his impeachment in 1998. He also admitted a sexual liaison with Arkansas state employee Gennifer Flowers and, as president, he paid $850,000 to settle a long-running sexual harassment lawsuit with Jones. In addition to Lewinsky, Flowers and Jones, former White House volunteer aide Kathleen Willey claimed that Clinton sexually assaulted her in a private study just off the Oval Office in 1993, during his first term. Willey never filed a legal claim against Bill Clinton over the incident but did write about it in a 2007 book. There is also Juanita Broaddrick, a former nursing home administrator in Arkansas who claim
Trump also
sought to clarify a tweet he posted late Monday night in which he noted that
Bill Clinton was accused of racism in 2008 when he campaigned with Hillary
Clinton against then-Sen. Barack Obama
as he said was not calling Clinton a racist. “He was called that by the Obama campaign, he was called it loud and
clear. He was extremely insulting... They said it. I didn't say it”. All I said is what they said, I don't
believe he is a racist, if you want to know the truth. But they called him a
racist. It was a miserable campaign. He did very poorly. And they're bringing
him out again” Trump answered.
