Derek Hough is set to star in the upcoming Broadway production
of Singin' In the Rain in
the role made famous by Gene Kelly in the 1952 movie of the
same name.
The musical's producer Harvey Weinstein made the official
announcement at the Weinstein Company's annual pre-Oscar dinner at the Montage
in Beverly Hills after Hough performed two numbers from the show, including the
iconic Singin' In the Rain.
Rumors that the DWTS fan favorite's Broadway gig began last
year after Hough performed Singin' In the
Rain in Weinstein's New York Spring Spectacular at Radio City
Music Hall. The original stage adaptation of Singin' opened on
Broadway in 1983 and ran for about a year.
The Weinstein party also included a performance by Zendaya
of a song from the current Weinstein-backed Broadway musical Finding Neverland. The guest list
for the fancy fete included Jared Leto, John Legend,
Chrissy Teigen, Matthew Morrison, Christoph
Waltz, Nick Jonas, Bryan Cranston, Naomi
Campbell, designer Zac Posen, Colin Firth,
Ashley Tisdale, Carol director Todd Haynes
and Andie MacDowell.
