Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has undergone a successful
operation to remove his appendix after missing his side’s 2-2 draw with Sunderland.
The German took ill ahead of the Premier League game at Anfield and had the
surgery at Aintree hospital on Saturday afternoon and a brief statement on the
club's website on Saturday lunchtime confirmed Klopp's condition. The managerial
responsibilities on match day fell to coaching staff including Zeljko Buvac, Peter Krawietz, Pepijn
Lijnders and John Achterberg.
Liverpool finished the day in ninth having seen their two-goal advantage
against the Black Cats wiped out in the final eight minutes with Jermain Defoe scoring a late equaliser
in the 2-2 draw.
