Akwa United FC’s
interim board has been dismissed by the Akwa Ibom state government on Tuesday
afternoon following their exit from the Caf
Confederation Cup. Governor of the state Mr. Udom Udom Emmanuel took the decision following the Promise
Keeper’s premature exit from the 2016 Caf Confederation Cup.
The dissolution was contained in a statement signed by the state
commissioner for information and communications, Aniekan Umanah. The Maurice
Cooreman led team needed a draw against AS Vita to scale through to the next round having recorded a 1-0
away win against the Congolese outfit.
Ubong Ekpai lost a first half
penalty to boost AS Vita’s confidence in the second halfas Kalumpubu’s 54th goal gave the Congolese a life line as scores
stood 1-1 on aggregate after regulation time and in a thrilling penalty
shootout, Akwa United bowed out prematurely from the competition.
Mr. Paul Bassey has been
appointed as the new board chairman of the team with immediate effect and would
last for three months.
