Oscar Keke Heartland General Manager said trouble started when Ebele Obi, their goalkeeper went to approach the centre referee at the end of the match to protest the soft yellow card awarded him during the said match only for it to be converted to a red card by the match arbiter. He said Obi was not happy with the development and still went further to demand why the referee acted in such manner but that the owner of the club, Ifeanyi Ubah came over to the pitch and called Obi with the hope that he wanted to ask what went wrong only for him to start slapping the goalkeeper and his security details joining in the show of shame too.
The Heartland GM called on LMC to investigate the case and not allow it to be swept under the carpet like previous unattended to crowd violence in the league to serve as deterrent to others that would like to take laws into their hands. He said “I will like the LMC to look into the case of manhandling of our players in Nnewi by the owner of FC IfeanyiUbah and his urchins. Football should not be turned violence and the act exhibited by Ifeanyi Ubah and his men is capable of dragging the progress of the league in the mud. Three of our players are down with injuries as a result of the barbaric act on them. We have officially notified the LMC and we expect them to act and administer justice to whoever his culpable irrespective of highly connected or placed the person is”
Meanwhile, those in the camp of FC IfeanyiUbah have denied such allegation, the Chairman of the club, Chukwuma Ubah said that the owner of the club, Ifeanyi Ubah never assaulted any Heartland player and that what he did was to rush to the stadium to rescue the referee who was a subject of intimidation by a Heartland player.
