Martin Demichelis Hit With FA Betting Charge

Manchester City defender Martin Demichelis has been charged by the Football Association in relation to betting. The Argentina international is alleged to have committed 12 breaches of FA rule E8 concerning football matches between January 22 and 28 this year. The FA announced new rules from 1 August, 2014 introducing a worldwide ban on betting on football.

It is understood that there is no suggestion that Demichelis is suspected of match-fixing or betting on a game involving Manchester City. Demichelis has until 5pm on April 5 to respond to the charge. He has played 18 Premier League games this season but was substituted in the recent 1-0 defeat to Manchester United.

Demichelis' most recent game came in a 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over Bolivia on Wednesday. Neither City nor the player has commented at this stage
