Van Der Sar Saves Penalty In First Game Out Of Retirement

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar saved a penalty for former club Noordwijk after coming out of retirement on Saturday. Van der Sar returned to play a one-off match for his former club in the Dutch fourth division.   The club where Van der Sar began his career is currently struggling with an injury crisis and had no fit goalkeeper available to play against Jodan Boys.

Van der Sar offered his services and the Dutch FA agreed to grant the 45years old special dispensation to start the game at short notice. The former Ajax and Juventus keeper proved his class by saving a first-half penalty but Noordwijk had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Van der Sar, who retired from professional football in 2011, is not expected to play another game for his hometown club.
