Victoria Azarenka stormed to
a second Indian Wells title courtesy of a ruthless performance to dispatch
world No 1 Serena Williams in
straight sets. The two-time Grand Slam champion broke Williams in the opening
game after a combination of double faults and unforced errors and that set the
tone for the contest.
Azarenka maintained that advantage and capitalised upon an error strewn set from the American to close out a 6-4 opener.
The world No 15 broke immediately again in set two and thanks to some blistering tennis served for the match at 5-2 but Williams rattled through two games as the pressure began to tell for Azarenka.
Staving off
a break point, Azarenka powered to a 6-4, 6-4 triumph to topple Williams for
the first time since 2013.
