Serena Williams Completes Swift Win In Second Round Of French Open

Serena Williams continued the defence of her French Open title with a comfortable straight sets win against Teliana Pereira in the second round. The world No 1 maintained her impressive start to the clay court tournament as she brushed aside her Brazilian opponent 6-2 6-1 in just an hour and six minutes at Roland Garros.

Williams had conceded just two games in her opening round 6-2 6-0 demolition of Magdalena Rybarikova and made similarly short work of Pereira, finishing with a total of 31 winners. The 34years old American fired down 22 of that tally in the first set and powered through the second, completing victory when Pereira pushed her return long. Williams is trying to equal Steffi Graf's record by winning her 22nd Grand Slam title and will next face either 26th seed Kristina Mladenovic or Hungary's Timea Babos.

Ana Ivanovic, the 2008 winner, is also through to the third round after a 7-5 6-1 win over Kurumi Nara, but former Wimbledon finalist Eugenie Bouchard has bowed out after a 6-4, 6-4 defeat to Timea Bacsinszky.
