Ventura
began his managerial career with Sampdoria's
youth team in 1976 and has taken charge of 17 Italian sides in total, including
Udinese, Napoli and Torino. He left Torino last month after
five successful seasons, the first of which saw him lead the club back to Serie
A, and has since been replaced by Sinisa Mihajlovic.
The appointment allows Italy to turn their attention to Euro 2016, with Belgium waiting in their Group E opener on June 13, and they also face Sweden and the Republic of Ireland in the group stages.
